Share with us one of your exciting days at Commtech Asia?
Every day is different but I will usually start my day by going over my schedule and to reply emails while I am still fresh. After that, I will usually meet with my project team to update any Cx progress for our clients. I find myself more social and high-energy after lunch, so I will be catching up with different teams across the regions (to keep abreast of what’s happening in other offices). After that, I will be heading to different sites and participate in commissioning testing before joining my team for a drink, dinner, or sometimes a company event.

Tell us a bit about your journey into commissioning?
I started commissioning in a shipyard for Oil & Gas projects where I managed the Cx process for semi-submersible rigs and jack-up rigs for about 8 years. I was then introduced to building commissioning when I first joined the company 5 years ago. I have then been involved in a lot of different projects including datacenters, commercial buildings, and retail.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
Get to grow my connection within the industry and of course, to deliver projects within clients’ specified guidelines and deadlines.

Any memorable moment/project?
Those must be the wonderful two datacenter projects that I had the opportunity to work in Australia. I spent 5 months in Melbourne and met a lot of great people there.

How has commissioning changed over the last five years?
It has become more challenging as clients’ requirements are more demanding. More than that, the number of competitors is also slowly growing up, so we need to gear ourselves up to differentiate from the competitors.

How would you like to see Commissioning change in the next five years?
I would like the commissioning process & requirements to be more systematic and standardized.

What advice would you give to anyone who would like to enroll in this same commissioning role as yours?
You must have a great interest to learn the Mechanical & Electrical infrastructure system for building and be accountable in every project that you are involved in.

Describe Commtech Asia in three words?
Professional, Reasonable, Challenging.
